A flying visit.....

Tuesday 28th March, 2017

This morning we visited the QANTAS Founders Museum here in Longreach. This is a comprehensive museum covering the people behind the formation and building of the airline.

This museum has on display the first Boeing 747 airliner ordered by QANTAS, along with a Boeing 707 and a Douglas DC3.   There are numerous other aircraft, static displays and video presentations, which tell the story of Australia's national carrier.

We took the option of doing the 'Jet tour', which is a guided tour of the 747, the 707 and the DC3, our guide, Grant, was genial and very knowledgeable. We were a bit spoiled, as we were the only takers on the first tour of the day.

The tour took us "up close and personal" with the aircraft, and it was a fascinating insight on the how's, why's and wherefores' of these machines.

We were both surprised as we left the museum, neither realised that we had been there for more than four hours. A very interesting place and well worth the visit.
This afternoon was again hot - and windy - so we took the opportunity to do a bit re-stocking of the pantry and some housekeeping.    Tomorrow we head for Winton, the home of Waltzing Matilda.
