Gulf to Gulf...

Sunday 16th April, 2017

We departed Leigh Creek, heading to Quorn. Our plan is to stay at Quorn and do the Pichi Richi railway on Monday.

As we head south we are greeted by views of the Flinders Ranges, the road is one of the best we have seen for ages.

We arrived in Quorn mid afternoon……only to find the caravan park chock-o-block! Bloody Easter Weekend, every man and his dog apparently goes to Quorn???

Anyway, once again we re-adjust the plan, and elect to move on to Port August (on the Spencer Gulf), 40 k’s down the road. Before leaving Quorn we booked our tickets for the train tomorrow. We’ll trip up without the van in the morning.

After a nights rest in Port Augusta, we toured up to Quorn. The Pichi Richi railway is one of the things on the list, that we missed last time we were in the area.

The railway is a volunteer run steam train, that runs on the old Ghan line.   It utilises a 40 odd kilometre section of the track, travelling out to Woolshed Flat, where we had lunch, and return.

The township of Quorn has many well preserved historic buildings, after leaving the train we had a wander around the streets, it is clear that the residents take great pride in their town.

Of course you can tell it is a country town................when you see this......

All in all a most enjoyable and relaxing day out.
