Ay......Karumba

Sunday 2nd April, 2017

Today we ventured further north, just a lazy 450 odd k's, our destination Karumba. Again we found that there is a lot of road between localities here in Queensland. We passed through Quamby, 1 abandoned hotel, population zero.

We did stop at the Burke and Wills Roadhouse. (If only Burke and Wills had stopped here, history may be different?) We had a cuppa, and a break, a little souvenir shopping an then back on the road.

Our next stop was the tiny town of Normanton, the home of the Purple Pub, a rather large barramundi, and a replica of the largest salt water crocodile ever shot in the world.

It was named "Krys the savannah King". The croc was shot in 1957, on the banks of the Norman River, by Krystine Pawlowski. It was an impressive 28 feet four inches (8.63m)in length, and an estimated weight in the vicinity of 2 tonnes.

We arrived in Karumba mid afternoon, set up camp, and took a tour of the town, (...didn't take   long) We had time to have a little relax before heading over to the beach to take in the sunset.
