And away we go...

Monday 20th March 2017.

Hooked up and ready to head off, our first stop.....2 blocks away, to drop the dog off at Bev's parents.  We managed to get away at about 9:00 am, we have all day to get to Swan Hill.   A drama free trip up to Horsham, where we stopped for a quick catch up with Bev's brother and his partner.

The Big Cod at Swan Hill
After leaving Horsham we ventured north and them across to Minyip (home of the "Flying Doctors").  Having toured Minyip previously, we continued through the town and on to Donald.

After a brief stop, for lunch,  we continued to Swan Hill.     We arrived mid afternoon, set up camp, and had a wander around the area.

 Tuesday 21st March,

After a restful nights sleep, even though it was quite warm, we were packed up and away by 8:40.  We crossed the Murray River and entered New South Wales, heading to Moulamein.  Where we paused briefly for fuel, and continued onward towards Hay.

We were lucky with the weather, we chased some very heavy rain for most of the morning, with only the occasional sprinkle actually landing on us.

Travelling along the Maude Road, which is between Moulamein and the Sturt Highway, there is an unsealed section about 8 km in length, which after an inch of rain in 20 minutes......turns into a corrugated, slippery double river of slush.   There were a couple of moments where the car thought traction control was necessary...Bev thought there should have been another couple as well!

After negotiating that section, I stopped for a quick check of the rig, no damage, and nothing that a quick hose off won't sort out.

We continued to chase the weather until we reached Hay.   We stopped at Hay and took a stroll around the main street.  After a short stay we moved on, we travelled east on the Sturt Hwy and then turned north along the Kidman Way towards Griffith.   We arrived in Griffith mid afternoon, found a suitable caravan park and set up.

We took in the sights of the main street, quite a pretty town, famous for fruit growing and wineries.  There is a statue dedicated to Australia's Diggers, it shows a WWI digger taking over the plough, and handing a rifle his WW2 digger son.

We plan to have a further look around the area in the morning, before we continue along the Kidman Way, towards Cobar and Bourke.
